Topic:  Living Building Challenge; A Metric for Building a Symbiotic Relationship to our Environment
 
Description: 
The Living Building Challenge strives for the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible. Whether your project is a single building or a complete neighborhood, Living Building Challenge provides a framework for design, construction and the symbiotic relationship between people and all aspects of the built environment.
 
We’ll outline the Challenge’s seven performance areas, and 20 imperatives required for a successful LBC design, look at several projects that have completed their certification review period, and explore a project in the early design phase, an Eco Village in West Marin.

Transportation Tips:
  • If you are traveling on MUNI or BART, we are located one block west of the Montgomery Bart Station, between Montgomery and Kearny Streets.
     
  • If you are traveling via car from the East Bay, you may exit onto Harrison Street or Fremont Street. There are two parking garages available across the street.
     
  • If you are traveling via car from South San Francisco on 280, exit toward the Port of San Francisco, continue for 3.2 miles, make a left onto King Street, a left on 3rd street, 3rd street becomes Kearny, make a right on Bush, a right on Montgomery and a right on Sutter Street.
Build It Green encourages carpooling to our events and we recommend posting comments in the section below to make arrangements with other attendees.

Biography

       
James Bill - Architect, ZIA [zero impact architecture]
James co-founded and is president of Z I A [zero impact architecture] integrating beauty with the science of deep sustainability. He is the architect of the first new-construction Passive House in California, an extremely low energy building that is also an affordable housing unit, which has no furnace yet has the highest levels of indoor air quality and comfort, and lowest operational costs and carbon footprint of any US building system.  He is a past board member of the USGBC Redwood Empire Chapter, currently Board Member of Passive House California, and active speaker on carbon footprint reduction needs and strategies.
 
Besides James Bill, there will be other speakers with either water expertise, knowledge and involvement in the Heron Point project, or a person involved in the EcoVillage project.
