California Clean Energy Workforce Training Program chooses Build It Green as Training Provider

New regulations and stimulus financing are putting home energy audits and retrofits across the nation on the fast track.  In California, the Clean Energy Workforce Training Program (CEWTP), the largest state-sponsored green jobs training program in the nation, is funding local Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) and community colleges to lead regional workforce training partnerships around the state.  Build It Green has been selected as one of the  training providers for this program.  Our Professional Training department is currently working with several local WIBs and community colleges throughout the state to offer Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP), Green Home Retrofitting & Remodeling, GreenPoint Rated: Advisor & Rater and GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Advisor & Rater trainings.

Our first CEWTP training in February of this year was such a success, we offered a second training two weeks later to accommodate the high demand.  The pilot trainings were held at the Marin Builders Association (MBA) in San Rafael in partnership with the Marin Employment Connection, and powered by the Workforce Investment Board of Marin County (MCWIB) and the MBA.  Mayor Albert Boro of San Rafael kicked off the training with timely information on San Rafael’s new green building ordinances.  Other high profile attendees included Caran Cuneo, Business Services Representative, Workforce Investment Board of Marin; Casey Mazzoni, Legislative Analyst, MBA; William Kelley, Deputy Director,  Building Inspection and Safety; and Catherine Merschel, Executive Director, Build It Green.  Combined, the February classes attracted over 100 people, and we will be holding a third training at the MBA on May 13-14.

If you are a construction professional, unemployed or underemployed, and looking for training in green building practices, whole house retrofitting or remodeling, or green home performance, you may be eligible for retraining under this program.  Contact your local Workforce Investment Board for more information.
