In today’s economy 95% of the construction market is existing homes. 70% of the existing housing stock in California was built prior to the development of the Title-24 Energy Code, and provide a great opportunity for energy upgrades as well as improving resource conservation and indoor air quality.

This two-day, how-to course is designed to provide construction professionals with a practical, comprehensive, step-by-step process to effectively upgrade and remodel existing homes in all aspects of a green home.

Participants will be guided through the deeper details of a comprehensive green home analysis and then the decision making pathways to upgrading/remodeling homes to include green building practices to address energy and water conservation, indoor air quality, moisture management, water heating, energy performance testing, HVAC, lighting, insulation and weatherization, mechanical ventilation, siding, roofing, finishes, landscape, and homeowner operations.

This course expands on the basic Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP) training course. CGBP or equivalent green building certification or working knowledge is recommended, but not required, for this course. The class provides 16 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) towards CGBP and GreenPoint Rated Recertification.

The Bay Area Public Agency Council represents the 9-county San Francisco Bay Area, as well as Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. Build It Green's Bay Area PAC meets quarterly at varying locations around the Bay Area to accomodate participants from all regions. Participation in the Bay Area PAC is not limited to Public Agency representatives from Northern California, however, presentations and updates given during the meetings are applicable to the region. Depending on outside funding sources and the availability of local host agencies, a $20 fee per council meeting applies. Please check the individual meeting postings as the fee changes from meeting to meeting. Build It Green strives to make these meetings available free of charge to everyone, but this is not always possible. GreenPoint Rated New Home

GreenPoint Rated New Home is a recognizable and independent seal of approval for green homes that allows them to stand out from the crowd. It reassures home buyers that a home has been 3rd party verified to meet the unique array of green practices chosen by the builder or owner from the GreenPoint Rated checklist. By the builder implementing these green practices, a home is designed to offer improvements
in indoor air quality, energy and water efficiency, and resource
conservation.

If the home meets minimum point requirements in each category and scores at least 50 points on either the Single Family or Multifamily GreenPoint Rated Checklist, as verified by a Certified GreenPoint Rater, it earns the right to bear the GreenPoint Rated label. The GreenPoint Rated label also provides a numerical score which allows buyers to evaluate and compare the environmental performance of different homes. Because GreenPoint Rated homes are evaluated by independent third party raters, building professionals and homeowners can feel confident that the rating has integrity and value. Additionally GreenPoint Rated offers a mechanism for Local Governments to incorporate green building into their ordinances.
