Description: Join us for an engaging workshop on the tradeoffs and challenges faced when selecting green materials for a home. There are many green options available to contractors and homeowners designing or remodeling, and just as many tough decisions to make throughout the process. Kurt Hurley will share his experience in achieving a zero energy home: the unexpected choices he faced, the tradeoffs associated with those choices, and the products selections he made to create his ideal space. Lydia Corser brings expertise in green materials and client communication, and will offer information about products she works with at Greenspace, and advice on how to work with your clients to define priorities they have for their projects. Food is provided.

Course Description

This course provides essential training for contractors who wish to offer Energy Upgrade California rebates to their clients who receive Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) gas or electric service. It is a required course if you do not already have a BPI Building Analyst on staff and it is strongly recommended even if you do.

In this three-day course, you will learn fundamentals of building science and gain practical experience with core measures in the Energy Upgrade California program, including;

How to find air leaks in the building shell and properly seal them
How to insulate the attic plane
How to test forced air duct systems and building shells to program standards
Combustion appliance safety testing practices
Essential components of PG&E's Energy Upgrade California program
How program measures fit with HERS, HERS II, BPI, and other certifications and utility programs

Course time is evenly split between the classroom and the demonstration house at PG&E's Stockton Training Center.

Eligibility Requirements:

Have attended a PG&E-hosted Participitation Workshop. Build It Green will verify this.

Bring to training:

Writing instruments, highlighter.
Notepad
Calculator
Personal dust mask [recommended]
Closed-toed shoes [no sandals allowed in test-house]
A refillable water bottle or drink container, to limit disposable water bottle use.

This one-day course is required for all Building Performance Institute (BPI) professionals or rater/analysts who wish to submit combustion appliance safety test results to Pacific Gas and Electric’s Energy Upgrade California program. The course focuses on supplementary combustion appliance safety protocols that augment those specified by BPI. It also provides training on proper duct testing techniques, which are not covered by BPI-certified professional training, and program installation specifications. NOTE: only BPI professionals who will submit combustion appliance safety test results to PG&E’s Energy Upgrade California program are eligible to take this course. Eligibility Requirements (must meet both categories):

Category 1

BPI professional, or a
Rater/Analyst

Category 2

Work for a company that is a current Energy Upgrade California Participating Contractor, or
work for a company that has attended a PG&E-hosted Participation Workshop and is in the process of becoming a Participating Contractor.

Pre-requisites and Eligibility

There are no pre-requisites or eligibility requirements to take Certified Green Building Professional training.

Requirements for the CGBP Certification:

Attendance - Participants must attend both training days.
Pass the Exam - Participants must receive a passing grade of 80% on the final exam (open-book at the end of day 2). If you do not receive a passing grade, you may re-take the exam for a fee of $95.

A light breakfast and afternoon snack will be served. Attendees are responsible for their own lunch.

Continuing Education Credit Available:

This course is approved by AIA for 16 learning units (Health, Safety & Welfare category).
