Virtual Roundtable on Finance

Understanding how to finance a small development project—like an ADU, duplex, or fourplex—can be one of the most difficult parts of getting started. There are often no clear roadmaps, few conventional products tailored to these projects, and a steep learning curve for developers.

To learn more about these challenges, and how to address them, we invite you to our May 15 Virtual Roundtable on Finance—a conversation between small-scale developers and local financial institutions designed to cut through the noise, surface real-world challenges, and share practical tools for funding small-scale housing in the East Bay.

May 15, 2025 | 12:00–1:30 PM PT | Online

This 90-minute session will cover:

  • What local financial institutions actually look for in funding decisions
  • Creative alternatives when conventional loans aren’t a fit
  • How to build the relationships that unlock capital
  • Real tools to help early-stage developers move forward.

This roundtable is part of BIG’s East Bay Small Development Incubator (SDI) program and builds on the momentum from our February lecture and March workshop, where we heard a strong call for deeper, topic-specific support. The purpose of the SDI program is to engage small, independent developers, government officials, and others from the residential development ecosystem (suppliers, financiers, etc.) to build the skills and relationships that will enable the industry to thrive and play its role in nurturing communities that are affordable, equitable, and environmentally vital.
