Pilot Program
Developing Environmentally Responsive Building Approaches - Oct 21

BIG Pilot

Build It Green built its reputation on bringing residential green building into the mainstream. But we’ve always known that shifting home building toward more sustainable practices was a starting place, not a destination.

Today, we’re envisioning a new approach to home and neighborhood building that fosters health in the broadest sense — as an interconnected web of personal, community and bioregional well-being.

A BIG community effort

The BIG Pilot Program is a vehicle for discovering and developing transformative approaches to designing, building and inhabiting homes. Grounded in inclusivity, community engagement and collaboration, we will delve into possibilities at different scales—from smaller homes known as accessory dwelling units to whole neighborhoods.

We anticipate this process will spark creative thinking about how these smaller homes can add value and vitality to existing neighborhoods. We’ll also explore how regenerative design thinking at the neighborhood scale can improve well-being in the personal, community and bioregional realms.

We encourage neighborhood residents, community groups, city officials, developers and others to join us in bringing forth these ideas.
